Plot Summary:

A freak accident might just help an everyday garden snail achieve his biggest dream: winning the Indy 5

Meet Turbo, just your average snail, aside from one factor. He is obsessed with racing and wants more than anything to be fast, and to compete in professional racing along with his idol. Unfortunately this dream isturbo02 impossible for a mere everyday snail to achieve. Or is it? Soon, an accident involving a journey through the inside of a car results in this average snail acquiring speeds that were never before possible and things begin to change for Turbo and is friend as they join with a taco truck salesman with big dreams of his own in an attempt to make Turbo the first snail to ever compete in Nascar.

‘Turbo’ is definitely another winner for Dreamworks Animation and one that the whole family should enjoy. turbo01There are a few mildly dark elements that may bother younger children, such as random birds picking off snails to their doom (though for most it is far more humorous than disturbing) but otherwise is a very light hearted film about the underdog fighting to achieve their goal, no matter how unthinkable or impossible that goal may seem.

‘Turbo’ is certainly helped by the impressive voice cast on board here. The title role is voiced by Ryan Reynolds, while other lead roles are voiced by the likes of Paul Giamatti, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Peña, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Snoop Dogg as well as a number of others. So there is certainly no shortage of acting talent on board here.

If you are looking for a fun and high spirited film for the whole family to enjoy, ‘Turbo’ is a great choice and one that I would highly recommend. I wasn’t expecting much going in, but was honestly surprised just how much I enjoyed this fun and uplifting film. If you find yourself enjoying animated films such as these at all, this is certainly a winner and one you won’t want to miss out on.

VIDEO:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘Turbo’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 2.35:1 Cinemascope Aspect Ratio. The video transfer on this one looks absolutely stunning. The perfect clarity, detail and gorgeously bright colors come to life as stunningly as possible on this Blu-Ray release. No flaws of any sort could be found in the video presentation and everything appears to be completely flawless. This is an absolutely phenomenal video presentation that should have everyone thrilled.

AUDIO:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘Turbo’ features a lossless 7.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack that I must admit was a bit of a surprise and sounded far better than I would have ever expected this movie to. During the race sequences and other exciting moments, this lossless 7.1 track really gets numerous chances to shine, in which it certainly does. All noises and elements are perfectly coordinated to all seven appropriate channels and during many scenes there is constant activity flooding throughout all of the channels. The fellow audiophiles out there should be as impressed as I am by this outstanding lossless soundtrack.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

This Blu-Ray release includes its fair share of extras. Included are ‘Champions Corner’ ‘Smoove Move’s Music Maker’ ‘Team Turbo: Tricked Out’, in addition to a storyboard sequence for the The Race and a deleted scene titled ‘Meet Tito’ and more. There are certainly more than enough goodies here to keep the family occupied after viewing the film.
