Film Rating: 8.5/10

Disc Rating: 8/10

Plot Summary:

A gang of ruthless highway killers kidnap a wealthy couple traveling cross country only to shockingly discover that things are not what they seem.

‘No One Lives’ is a film I went into not expecting a whole lot out of, and ended up loving enormously. This is a very clever horror/thriller that takes things in an unexpected direction from the general  genre formula, and the result isnol01 one bloody good time. This film will have the gore hounds out there quite satisfied with the level of carnage presented throughout, and the overall creativity and concept of the film is phenomenal and plays out remarkably well. Everything comes together remarkably well for this film (including a director who is really starting to make a name for himself in the world of American horror) and as a result we are presented with a brutal, twisted and incredibly fun ride which horror fans there certainly won’t want to miss out on.

‘No One Lives’ is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, who made his American directorial debut with ‘Midnight Meat Train’ which was another incredibly underrated and magnificent film that nol05certainly didn’t skimp on genre fans when bringing the gore. He does a wonderful job yet again with this film, and I will certainly be keeping an eye on him to see what else he has to bring to the table in the near future. It must be noted what a tremendous job Luke Evans did with this role in this as well. He pulls it off flawlessly and is incredibly convincing. He is certainly by far the most notable performance.

For fans of great, underrated horror films, and those who enjoyed Kitamura’s first American outing of ‘Midnight Meat Train’, you will certainly want to check out ‘No One Lives.’ This would even be a pretty safe blind buy in my opinion. It’s now available on Blu-Ray Combo pack & DVD, so make sure and check it out as soon as you can, its more than worth the watch, and already having watched it twice, I can say it holds up quite well on repeat viewings as well.

VIDEO:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘No One Lives’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 2.40:1 Cinemascope Aspect Ratio and as usually the case with Anchor Bay’s Blu-Ray releases, the video looks superb. It’s sharp, detailed, and smooth and provided with a very healthy bit rate to boot. Everyone should be quite pleased with the video presentation on the Blu-Ray.

AUDIO:

The Blu-Ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack which really hits hard at times. In certain scenes the soundtrack really hits full force, and the bass isn’t afraid to slam into the mix as well. While the whole film isn’t filled with an abundance of activity throughout the rear channels, there is certainly enough that a detailed and uncompressed multichannel soundtrack is certainly an advantage while viewing this film, and this Dolby TrueHD track is quite capable.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The only special feature included on the Blu-Ray release is a feature titled ‘From The Script To The Crypt.’

Film Rating: 8.5/10

Disc Rating: 8/10

‘No One Lives’ is now available to own on Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack & DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment.
