Release Date: Available On DVD July 09
A Review By: Kevin Lovell
Disc Rating: 8/10
Rod Serling’s seminal anthology series focused on ordinary folks who suddenly found themselves in extraordinary, usually supernatural, situations. The stories would typically end with an ironic twist that would see the guilty punished.
Image/RLJ Entertainment is releasing a new extremely reasonably priced episode only release for the Third Season of Rod Serling’s classic series ‘The Twilight Zone’ this Tuesday, July 9. For fans of the series who would like to save some cash and just want a nice collection of all the episodes in the season without all of the bonus features, then this episode only release of Season Three is definitely the version you’ll want to pick up.
The set features all 37 classic episodes from the third season on 5 discs and is sure to keep you entertained for a good many hours. I have spent numerous hours going through this set myself as of late and I must say it has been quite the enjoyable experience. I have never seen the majority of the episodes from Season Three, though a couple of them I have seen previously and it’s a very fun and entertaining season that fans both new and old will certainly want to own if they don’t already. I would say the only issue I had with this collection was the lack of a play all button on the discs.
The third season of ‘The Twilight Zone’ features a number of memorable episodes; The Arrival, The Grave, The Mirror, The Dummy, Nothing in the Dark, and a number more. It also features an array of notable guest stars including the likes of Robert Redford, Charles Bronson, Carol Burnett, Dean Stockwell, Leonard Nimoy and many more. This is certainly a tremendous season of the classic series you won’t want to miss out on owning and now is certainly a great chance with this new episode only release which has a suggested retail price of a mere $29.98.
The video on this new episode only release of ‘The Twilight Zone: Season Three’ is displayed in a 4×3 black & white presentation representing its original television broadcast. The video quality is as superb as can be imaginable for a full screen, black and white release and should not leave any fans of the series upset in regard to the video quality. This is a very respectable transfer with no noticeable faults throughout that I could spot.
As ‘The Twilight Zone’ is a very old series, it is presented with a Dolby Digital 2.0 Audio Track that sounds quite impressive and leaves nothing to be desired as far as the audio goes. All dialogue is clear, and all other elements of the soundtrack are clearly defined and perfectly suitable. For a series produced as long ago as this one, I must admit even this quality of soundtrack was unexpected, but nevertheless a quite welcome surprise.
