Plot Summary:

A female forensic psychiatrist discovers that all of one of her patient’s multiple personalities are murder victims. She will have to find out what’s happening before her time is finished.

‘6 Souls’ tells the tale of a woman who after losing her husband loses her faith in God and tries to prove the scientific reason behind everything, including multiple personality disorder which she believes is never truly a disease and that each opposite personality is always completely aware of the opposing personality at least in some degree. Then she meets Adam, and slowly but surely everything she believes and has worked for is put into question and those she cares about will be put at risk unless she can figure out just what she is dealing with and how to make it stop.

Some may have been previously aware of ‘6 Souls’ as the film was actually completed back in 2009 and originally titled ‘Shelter’ though is just now seeing the light of day here in the states. I have seen some conflicting opinions on this one but I must say aside from a few issues I took with the film, I quite enjoyed it. The main issue I had was with the ending. I will of course not spoil the ending in any way and will simply say it felt rushed and a bit confusing and that left a little bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. With the exception of the ending, I really enjoyed this movie. It was eerie, mesmerizing at times, and always left me not quite sure what exactly was happening, or where it would go. They do explain everything, so rest assured that my problem with the ending was not due to lack of closure, and please understand that while it may have felt wrong to me, I’m sure others may feel differently.

Julianne Moore’s performance was decent, but for some reason felt a little bit tired. The true star of ‘6 Souls’ is without question Jonathan Rhys Meyers who gives a quite impressive performance in the role of Adam. The majority of the cast give competent performances and the story is interesting and original, with some truly creepy imagery and scenes. While it’s not something I would say you must rush out and watch immediately, I found it to be a pretty entertaining film and would certainly recommend checking it out if you come across it.

VIDEO:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘6 Souls features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 2.35:1 Cinemascope Aspect Ratio. Once again Anchor Bay Entertainment brings a very suitable and detailed transfer that is sure to keep most quite pleased. The colors are sharp, dark scenes are easy to tell what’s going on, and really no issues could be found with the video presentation throughout.

AUDIO:

The Blu-Ray features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack which certainly helps to add some creepiness to this already creepy film. The rear channels are not always used to full effect, but at tense and creepy moments, the multichannel soundtrack really comes into play quite flawlessly and helps bring a few more chills to the table. This is a very competent lossless soundtrack that should not disappoint audiophiles such as me.
