‘Regular Show’ is a series I must admit I had never seen prior to this DVD and honestly wasn’t even familiar with in any way. Imagine my surprise when I pop in this DVD and find out I’ve been missing out on what might possibly be one of the funniest shows currently airing on Cartoon Network. The humor is surprisingly adult and hilarious and the characters are odd enough to be likeable as well as humorous simply due to their appearance. The series follows two animal friends who work at a park and continually screw up the jobs they are expected to perform and complete. There are a number of regular additional characters, that while I wouldn’t call them leads, they are definitely recurring enough to be familiar. The animation is fun, the goofy adventures amusing and is overall a surprisingly well done series. While I know many are not fans of the miscellaneous episode releases, if you are a fan of this show and not specific about only collecting season sets, this is a pretty decent DVD release as far as these types of releases go. The ‘Party Pack’ DVD release features 16 episodes from ‘Regular Show’ and each one is sure to bring some laughs.
VIDEO:
The video is presented in a 16×9 friendly 1.78:1 aspect ratio representing the aspect ratio in which it was originally broadcast. The video on this release was actually pretty impressive. The video is smooth, detailed and doesn’t overdo on the colors as some other releases do. As far as animated DVD releases go, the video quality leaves little to be desired and looks quite beautiful for a DVD release overall.
AUDIO:
The audio on this release is a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo soundtrack. Though once again, without going with a 5.1 channel multichannel soundtrack, the 2.0 Dolby Digital on this release sounds pretty tremendous. As per usual, I used Dolby Pro-Logic II X to up-convert to simulated 7.1 and when doing so you can really get an idea of just how fantastic of a stereo track this really is. The dialogue is distinct and audible, while not detracting from the effects and background music. As far as 2 channel DVD audio tracks go, this one is definitely top notch.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
As per usual with the individual episode DVD releases from Warner Bros & CN, there is only one special feature, and in this case it is a ‘Party Guest List’ that provides you with information and photos for a surprisingly large number of the characters you will see throughout the 16 episodes. While it is still not much as Special Features go, at least it’s something, and provides useful information on the characters, especially for individuals such as myself that are not familiar with the series.
