I have never had the privilege of enjoying the series ‘Adventure Time’ prior to now but I must admit I am quite fond of it and will probably continue to watch the series from this point on. The series follows the wacky out of this world adventures of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog as they journey through this world, help princesses and try to stop evil beings such as the vicious (and hilarious) Ice King. The latest DVD release for the series features the special episode ‘Fiona and Cake’ which focuses on the world of Finn and Jake and how it would be if every character was the opposite sex. Enter Fiona the human girl, and Cake the cat. The first episode on this release is this special episode and the release also features 15 other great episodes selected from this tremendous series. Just how much fun will you have with this DVD? Well, pick up your copy today and see for yourself.
The video quality on this DVD release is pretty decent aside from one noticeable issue. The interlacing on the disc can be quite distracting. During fast moving scenes and any sequences with frequent or fast motion you can noticeably see the interlacing lines throughout the screen which I must admit is a bit distracting. The video quality is top notch for a DVD release aside from this issue though. If they get around to releasing these titles in a progressive scan format that would make this a truly top notch release. The colors are smooth and focused and there is no blur or pixelation to note. If you can stand the interlacing annoyance then the quality should otherwise be very pleasing to the eye.
This release features a Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track and it sounds quite impressive. The audio is detailed, understandable and easily distinguishes between the dialogue and music, background noises etc. Aside from stepping up to a 5.1 multichannel audio track, this is about as good as it can get. The audio track sounds quite exceptional using simulated surround sound on my receiver as well.
There are really no special features on the disc aside from the normal one little bonus CN usually throws in on compilation releases such as this. While it would be nice to see them continue to focus on getting the full seasons of the show out, for random fans who just want to get a feel for the show, this is a pretty decent DVD release and one I wouldn’t put anyone off from buying unless you are a die hard fan who only wants the full season sets in their collection.
Disc Rating: 7/10
