The Venture Bros: Season Five [Blu-Ray]

Release Date: Available on Blu-Ray & DVD March 4, 2014

A Review By: Kevin Lovell

Disc Rating: 9/10

Plot Summary:

The bizarre animated escapades of pseudo-heroic scientist Dr. Rusty Venture, his competent, high strung bodyguard, and his two over-enthusiastic sons.

Hank and Dean Venture are back, along with all of your other favorite characters for some more hilarious and over the top misadventures that you won’t want to miss out on. The fifth season of ‘The Venture Bros.’ arrives home and these boys look more glorious than ever in High Definition on Blu-Ray.  One thing that I must say I really love andventure.bros.season05-01 appreciate most about Adult Swim’s Blu-Ray releases is the cleverness and detail that goes into the artwork and overall case for each release. They don’t just slap a slipcover of a poster on both covers with specs on the back, they always create a unique and (in most cases) uniquely drawn and clever image and make sure that every aspect of the case from the outside slip, to the inside case and the disc are all unique to each other and never using the same old image three times in a row in the same exact manner. You can rest assured that this latest season of ‘The Venture Bros.’ is certainly no exception and has a very fun and clever case that fans of the series are almost sure to appreciate.

The Blu-Ray release of ‘The Venture Bros: Season Five’ looks and sounds wonderful, as well as includes some pretty fun bonus goodies and fans of the series will definitely want to make sure they add a copy of this one to their collection. Everyone can also rest assured that all of the episodes are completely uncensored and bleep free on this release, leaving all of the f-bombs completely intact.

VIDEO:

The video on the Blu-Ray release of ‘The Venture Bros: Season Five’ is a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio (although as with most of the Adult Swim Blu-Ray releases, yet again a typo on the rear of the box where the specifications are noted incorrectly states it as having a 2.4:1 presentation, I can guarantee everyone that is not the case and it is in fact presented in the series’ original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio in which it was originally broadcast). The video looks phenomenal on this one. All of the colors are bright and sharp and everything looks wonderfully displayed. This is without question a huge step up from the High Definition broadcast in which it originally aired and fans of the series should be more than pleased with this high definition video presentation.

AUDIO:

The Blu-Ray release features an uncompressed English 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on all of these Season Five episodes and it sounds quite impressive. There is a surprising amount of activity utilized in the rear speakers on this series, and when a jet will go zooming by on one side, the sound perfectly follows it on its progression past the viewer. The fellow audiophiles out there, fans of the series as well as those enjoying the episodes for the first time should be quite impressed with this lossless multichannel soundtrack.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘The Venture Bros: Season Five’ includes some incredibly fun and informative bonus features that are sure to make fans of the series quite excited. Included are audio commentaries by Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick on every single episode of the season, including the Halloween Special. Also included are just shy of 6 minutes of deleted and extended scenes, a sort of ‘Behind The Music’ type Mockumentary titled ‘From The Ladle To The Grave: The Shallow Gravy Story’ which is a lot of fun and quite hilarious, as well as a random, goofy and downright hilarious little bonus titled ‘Fax My Son’. While I know that I already previously noted it above, for those who missed it and would like to be certain, I would like to again mention that the entire season is presented here on this Blu-Ray release completely uncensored, bleep free and with all of the f-bombs fully intact.
