Synopsis:

Weeks after the harrowing events of Dexter: New Blood, Dexter Morgan awakens from a coma to discover that his son, Harrison, is missing. Determined to find him and make things right, Dexter sets out for New York City. But when Miami Metro’s Angel Batista arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ rejoins our lovable serial killer shortly after the shocking events that concluded ‘Dexter: New Blood’ as Dexter awakens from a coma. After coming to Dexter is confronted by his own friend and co-worker Angel Batista who is finally aware of Dexter’s secret and intent to see him stopped after the loss of so many people he cares for. Desperate to find his son and ensure his safety, Dexter heads out to New York where Harrison is currently living and begins to feed his dark passenger in a new world while trying to keep an eye on his son at the same time. Meanwhile, Angel follows leading to a long-awaiting confrontation that could change each of them forever.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ was created by Clyde Phillips who does a marvelous job returning to Dexter’s story and taking the series back to what feels in line with its more rewarding seasons. The debut season of the new series features numerous returning stars and plenty of notable new ones in recurring and guest roles and includes Michael C. Hall, Uma Thurman, David Zayas, Jack Alcott, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, with James Remar and Peter Dinklage. Notable guest stars include Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet and David Dastmalchian and everyone helps in their own right to make this sequel series work as spectacularly as it does.

The debut season of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ is nothing short of outstanding, bringing Dexter back with the snarky bite and wit that we all love and serving up a magnificent season that only exceeds expectations in every way. A true return to form for the franchise that serves up one of the most engaging, thrilling and tense season’s since the early days of the original series. It’s smart, clever, surprising and twisted, not to mention hilarious, emotional at times and always an absolute blast with nary a dull moment to be had throughout its ten-episode debut run. It merges the worlds of the various series together marvelously and utilizes a new setting with a familiar tone and style, then ups the ante by a fair degree and the end result is absolute brilliance and an unforgettable ride that no Dexter fan will even want to consider missing out on.

The debut season of the sequel series arrives home in its entirety in the 3-disc ‘Dexter: Resurrection – The Complete First Season’ Blu-ray release from Paramount Home Entertainment. The Blu-ray set features great full High Definition presentations on all ten episodes of the season which are paired with solid and immersive multichannel Dolby TrueHD soundtracks that have every single episode looking and sounding pretty terrific. In addition to the notable HD video and audio presentations, the release also features three entertaining Behind the Scenes Featurettes that fans of the series should enjoy. Altogether it’s another nice and fairly rewarding Blu-ray release that shouldn’t have any trouble pleasing fans of the series who want to physically add it to their collection. If you’re a fan that’s considering a purchase but hasn’t yet picked up a copy this one is definitely recommended.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Dexter: Resurrection – The Complete First Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with the show’s original 2.39:1 aspect ratio on every episode of the debut season. The video presentations look wonderful as a whole and provide clean, sharp and colorful presentations for each episode with no notable issues or glitches to be uncovered along the way. Detail is splendid on everything from character specifics to the busy city streets and various other locations, with bright, full-bodied colors that never underwhelm and rewardingly deep, clean black levels throughout. Overall, these are fantastic high definition presentations that deliver beautifully and should have fans extremely satisfied.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on all 10 Season 1 episodes. These multichannel soundtracks offer clean, crisp and consistently immersive audio presentations on every episode. They repeatedly take advantage of all five available channels in order to send music, action, vehicle and crowd noise throughout the various speakers, with cars passing from the rear to front speakers and other noticeable utilizations of the surround tracks, while never allowing any dialogue or other audio elements to ever become distorted or negatively affected along the way. Overall, these are very solid 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks that throw you into the fun and excitement and never disappoint in their execution.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Dexter: Resurrection – The Complete First Season’ features a few enjoyable extras in the form of Behind the Scenes Featurettes that include interviews/comments with the cast and crew, plus behind the scenes footage and more. They include ‘Dexter Reawakened’ (running approximately 21 minutes in length), ‘The Code Lives On’ (running 5 minutes), and ‘Father, Son, and the Dark Passenger’ (approximately 9 minutes).
