Synopsis:

Loopy De Loop is a French-Canadian wolf with a mission- to change the bad image that people have of wolves and make them appreciated as warm and generous fellow creatures. Not an easy job, even for a loup as charming as Mssr. Loopy, and the poor fellow is usually rewarded with a terrified cry of “Help!” and a clout on his head. But hope springs eternal in the heart of this unsavage beast as he tries to undo wolf’s big, bad image by rendering aid and assistance to the likes of Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Little Bo Beep, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, D’Artagnan, Dr. Jekyll and more to injurious and hilarious results. Following their initial success with THE HUCKLEBERRY HOUND SHOW on television, Hanna-Barbera created the Loopy de Loop cartoons for theatrical release through Columbia Pictures. These animated antics were highly popular on the big screen where they delighted audiences of all ages for six years. Loopy is (of course) voiced by the legendary Daws Butler, with other treasured vocal artists also contributing to their talents to these shorts including Don Messick and June Foray. Now, newly remastered from 4K scans of their original camera negatives, all forty-eight of Loopy’s animated antics are contained in this complete collection, so get ready to cry, “Sacre-iliac!”

It’s time for fun, laughs and chaos with ‘Loopy De Loop’ a French-Canadian wolf who is utterly determined to make a good name for wolves everywhere and prove that not every wolf is diabolical and mean, and that some are in fact truly kind, considerate and charming. Unfortunately for Loopy, the majority of the world doesn’t seem to share his opinion regardless of just how hard he tries to be an example. As Loopy repeatedly tries to do the right thing and help any creature in need by offering a helping paw, his kind actions are typically met with fear, distrust and hate. But for lovable Loopy nothing will stop him from continually doing the kind and right thing.

‘Loopy De Loop’ made his debut in 1959 and starred in his own collection of 48 animated theatrical shorts that were produced and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and released between 1959 and 1965, featuring the voice talents of the legendary Daws Butler as Loopy. Various other notable voice stars also appear throughout the animated shorts such as Don Messick, Jean Vander Pyl, Doug Young, Arnold Stang, Janet Waldo and Mel Blanc who each contribute notably to the animated adventures along the way.

Loopy’s adventures throughout his 48 theatrical animated shorts sees the kindhearted, do-good wolf repeatedly try to make a good name for his kind as he gets caught up in one dangerous, ridiculous and amusing situation after another amid his quest to do good. He takes on everything from numerous popular fairy tale situations including Hansel and Gretel, the Three Little Pigs, Snow White and so many more as he attempts to step in and help the characters in trouble and almost always to their dismay and anger. The animated fun also sees Loopy repeatedly clashing with a no-nonsense Sheep Dog and his charges, plus a family of annoyed bears, fellow wolves he can’t help but try to improve, his own nephew Bon-Bon and so much more.

It’s almost impossible not to feel sorry for the lovable Loopy as he tries and tries again to do right and never manages to get the respect or appreciation he deserves but that’s also what makes him so endearing at the same time; not to mention all being a perfect recipe for animated laughs and excitement. If you’re a Hanna-Barbera fan that’s not overly familiar with Loopy De Loop, then I would strongly encourage going out of your way to give the animated shorts a whirl because they are immensely fun and rewarding; yet another marvelous credit on the impressive Hanna-Barbera catalog of cartoons.

The world’s most lovable wolf Loopy returns home with all 48 animated theatrical shorts in spectacular high definition in the 2-disc ‘Loopy De Loop: The Complete Collection’ Blu-ray set courtesy of Warner Archive Collection who continues to make the dreams of fellow Hanna-Barbera classic cartoon fans come to life with all of these delightful Blu-ray collections. Once again digging deep in the vault with a slightly lesser known star, Loopy De Loop’s adventures are all included here in high definition and remastered from 4K scans of the original camera negatives that look awfully spectacular for the most part. The notable new HD presentations are each nicely paired with dual mono DTS-HD MA soundtracks that together look and sound better than a lot of fans probably ever imagined being the case. The set doesn’t include any extras within, but for the dedicated Hanna-Barbera fans considering a purchase this one is very highly recommended and will make a great addition to any fan’s collection.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Loopy De Loop: The Complete Collection’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation for all 48 animated theatrical shorts, remastered in 1080p HD from 4K scans of the original camera negatives and utilizing their original 1.37:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentations look pretty spectacular for the most part and each offers a generally clean, sharp and filmic presentation that’s splendidly detailed and rich with vibrant colors. Detail is solid on characters and backgrounds, while colors are typically rich, bold and bright, with a notable grain structure visible throughout. As is often the case with these classic cartoons some of the sources are slightly superior to others so there is some shift in quality between shorts at times, but they all look awfully wonderful all things considered. Overall, these are largely fantastic high definition presentations that should have fans of the beloved animated shorts thrilled.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release includes a 2.0 dual mono DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack for all 48 theatrical shorts. These dual mono DTS-HD MA soundtracks hold up nicely for the most part and deliver clean, sharp and crisp audio presentations for the majority of the animated shorts. They nicely balance the various audio elements within and ensure that all music, dialogue and effects remain clean and fully audible without any audio elements clashing with one another. There are a few shorts with slightly less stellar audio that is mildly muffled by comparison, yet even so they remain audible and problem-free otherwise. Overall, these are mostly very nice 2.0 dual mono DTS-HD MA soundtracks that do their job well and shouldn’t disappoint.
