‘Tom and Jerry’ are a staple of cartoons and still hold a place alongside the greatest animated characters to ever grace the silver screen or your television, and one could argue that no one did a better job with the characters than Hanna-Barbera with their 114 animated shorts proving favorites among fans to this day, from the earliest incarnation where the duo were called Jasper and Jinx and spanning to the CinemaScope shorts years later. And now, every single one of those iconic theatrical shorts makes its way home in one outstanding collection after all of these years featuring every short remastered and uncut, even including the three previously unavailable/banned shorts Casanova Cat, Mouse Cleaning and His Mouse Friday which I probably don’t have to tell you is a pretty big deal in itself. If you’ve been holding off in the hopes of a definitive ‘Tom and Jerry’ collection then I’m happy to inform you that it has arrived.

This is it folks, this is the one you’ve been waiting for! All 114 animated Tom and Jerry shorts from Hanna Barbera arrive home full remastered and uncut at long last in the 6-disc ‘Tom and Jerry: The Golden Era Anthology’ Blu-ray set from Warner Archive Collection. This marvelous release delivers all 114 theatrical shorts released from 1940-1958 sporting generally spectacular full High Definition presentations of each cartoon, spread between five discs for optimum quality. The noteworthy video presentations are nicely complemented by lossless DTS-HD MA soundtracks for each and fans should be absolutely thrilled with the results.

In addition to the rewarding video and audio presentations and all 114 animated shorts finally being collected in one set at last, this Blu-ray set also features a sixth disc which is dedicated entirely to supplements and features multiple brand new Featurettes, along with numerous previously released extras that altogether offer hours of entertaining extras that fans should have a lot of fun. This set is nothing short of phenomenal and it joins Warner Archive’s ‘Huckleberry Hound’ set as one of the best collections of 2025 and one that I can safely say that every diehard ‘Tom and Jerry’ fan will want to ensure is added to their collection. If you’re a fan of ‘Tom and Jerry’ and the Golden Era shorts from Hanna Barbera then you’ll want to own this delightful box set which earns my highest possible recommendation.

The Blu-ray release of ‘Tom and Jerry: The Golden Era Anthology’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation for all 114 animated shorts with the original 1.37:1 Aspect Ratio on everything other than the CinemaScope shorts which feature a 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentations provide generally clean, sharp and richly colored presentations for the various shorts and most of them have never looked better. Due to different remasters from different sources and the condition that some were likely in there are fluctuations in the quality between many of the shorts, yet they all look very good and it seems safe to say that each looks as good as we’ll likely see, while most of them look better than fans may have even hoped. Overall, these are great high definition presentations that hold up nicely in most respects and should have fans very excited.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release includes a 2.0 dual mono DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack for the majority of shorts, with the exception of shorts from disc 5 which are presented in 2.0 stereo DTS-HD MA. These dual mono and stereo DTS-HD MA soundtracks deliver nicely in most respects, especially when taking into consideration the age of the source material. The audio presentations capably balance the various audio elements within to ensure that all dialogue, music, effects and everything else sounds generally clean, sharp and fully audible, with no elements contradicting or clashing with any others. Some of the soundtracks vary in quality to some degree due to the sources, yet they all sound pretty good all things considered. Overall, these are fully capable and solid 2.0 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that should have fans quite pleased.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Tom and Jerry: The Golden Era Anthology’ offers hours of enjoyable extras, along with a full color ‘The Art of Tom and Jerry’ booklet. Included on the set is ’20 Audio Commentaries’ accompanying various shorts throughout, while the rest of the extras are included on the sixth disc which is dedicated to bonus material and features numerous Featurettes and more, both new and previously released. They include ‘Lady of the House: The Story of Mammy Two Shoes’ (running approximately 28 minutes in length), ‘Animal Hijinks: The Friends and Foes of Tom and Jerry’ (running approximately 31 minutes), ‘The Midnight Snack Panel Test – Side by Side’ (approximately 9 minutes), ‘Cat and Mouse: The Tale of Tom and Jerry’ (32 minutes), ‘Tom and Jerry: Behind the Tunes’ (17 minutes), ‘Animators as Actors’ (7 minutes), ‘How Bill and Joe Met Tom and Jerry’ (27 minutes), ‘Vaudeville, Slapstick and Tom and Jerry’ (23 minutes) and ‘The Comedy Stylings of Tom and Jerry’ (5 minutes). Also included is a ‘1953 Excerpt from Dangerous When Wet’ (8 minutes), ‘”The Worry Song” from Anchors Aweigh (1945)’ (9 minutes), and ‘3 Bonus Shorts’: “Good Will to Men (1955)” (8 minutes), “Give and Tyke (1957)” (7 minutes), and “Scat Cats (1957)” (6 minutes).
