‘Peanuts’ is easily one of the most iconic comic strips in history and one that nearly everyone around today is familiar with by name, or at least by some of the unforgettable characters featured within. Now, forty of the timeless and enjoyable animated specials featuring Charlie Brown and the gang arrive home in this 75^th Anniversary Ultimate TV Specials Collection. Featuring countless unforgettable moments such as Charlie Brown’s determination to find beauty in a struggling Christmas tree to the debate of the Great Pumpkin, Charlie’s first kiss, plus the animated take on the acclaimed Broadway musical to the group’s repeated attempts to step up their baseball game, it’s hours of kindhearted and family friendly fun that is certain to slap a smile on your face time and again.

All of the fun, humor and heart that are synonymous with the ‘Peanuts’ franchise arrive home in all their glory as part of the 5-disc ‘Peanuts: 75^th Anniversary Ultimate TV Specials Collection’ on Blu-ray courtesy of Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. The release features 40 animated specials released between 1965-2011 which are spread between five discs and sporting full high definition video presentations on each that range from outstanding to mediocre quality wise and are paired with multichannel DTS-HD MA soundtracks for each, which does unfortunately mean there are no original soundtrack offerings included for the older animated specials which is sure to disappoint many purists who were surely hoping to see these included at least in addition to the 5.1 tracks.

While the quality does vary and some of the specials look significantly better than others, the set is still quite a treat for those who would love to own all of these great specials in one convenient set. If you’re okay with the varying quality and just thrilled to own them in HD and in one collection, then this Blu-ray set is recommended, especially if you can grab a copy at the right price to fit your budget.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Peanuts: Ultimate TV Specials Collection’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation on every animated special with the original 1.33:1 Aspect Ratio for 39 of the 40 specials, while the final included special “Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown” includes its original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentations offer varying quality based on each specific special, with the quality on many specials looking incredibly sharp, vibrant and slick, while others look somewhat noisy and imperfect with less sharp detail and coloring; with a handful even looking largely disappointing almost as if they were poorly upscaled from a standard definition source. I’ve included screenshots from a handful of different specials throughout this review in order to provide an idea of the varying quality. Overall, these high definition presentations range from terrific to questionable and while some look better than others, it’s certainly still a treat to have them all featured in one nice collection.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release includes a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 40 Specials, with no other options available, therefore the original audio presentations for the older shorts are unavailable and are solely accompanied by the newer (or remastered) multichannel option. These multichannel soundtracks are pretty decent as a whole and they mostly offer clean, sharp and capable presentations throughout and like the video presentations do vary to a degree in quality, yet not to same degree of difference. They occasionally take advantage of all five available channels in order to send some music and perhaps a few other tidbits throughout the various speakers, while keeping the dialogue and any other audio elements clean and fully audible. Overall, these are mostly solid or at the very least decent 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that for the most part hold up nicely enough and do the trick.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Peanuts: Ultimate TV Specials Collection’ does not include any bonus material new or old aside from an included full-color booklet with brief details on many of the included specials and brief bios for the characters.
