The iconic horror franchise ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ is one that many genre fans hold in high regard, and for good reason; not the least of which is the unforgettable and perfect performance by the legendary Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, as well as the unique approach and style of the saga which invited horror fans into the world of a very different type of slasher series. It utilized a weakness that everyone is susceptible to in falling asleep and then twisted that into a new type of nightmare all its own; an idea that clearly worked tremendously due to the legacy and numerous follow-ups that resulted from the success of the first film, even causing New Line Cinema to often be dubbed as “The House that Freddy Built”.
The series certainly fluctuated in quality and even if some installments are far better than others, there’s something to love about them all even when they get a bit over the top with the goofy, tongue in cheek tone (which is fortunately usually balanced by an uptick in the carnage) and it only starts with the outstanding performance by Englund as Freddy who steals the show in every installment. The ongoing stories and various unique characters throughout the franchise all add up and helped the saga to stand out so notably, not to mention still able to creep us out all of these years and decades later.

All seven original films in the ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ franchise arrive together on 4K Ultra HD for the first time in this ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 7-Film Collection’ from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. The release features the original seven films in the series sporting impressive full Ultra High Definition presentations with HDR-10 that bring the films home looking better than ever before, and by a pretty significant margin at that. The stellar new UHD video presentations are further complemented by the option to view each with a new Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack or the original theatrical presentation in 2.0 DTS-HD MA for the first six films and 5.1 DTS-HD MA for ‘New Nightmare’.
The collection also includes the Uncut versions (as well as the Theatrical cuts) of both the original ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child’ as well as ‘Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare’ with the original 3D conclusion (even including one pair of anaglyph 3D glasses within), on top of numerous new and previously released extras that altogether help to make this one tremendous box set that should have fans of the series very excited. It is worth noting that while advertised as using a red amaray case, the copy that I received for review actually came in a black amaray case with a slipcover. If you’re a fan that’s already considering a purchase this 7-disc 4K set is definitely highly recommended and well worth adding to your collection.

VIDEO:
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 7-Film Collection’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with HDR-10 for all seven films, with each presented in their original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. The first and fifth film feature both the Theatrical and Uncut versions and ‘Freddy’s Dead’ features the option to view with the ending sequence in 3D and 2D (with a pair of anaglyph glasses included in the packaging). The video presentations look pretty marvelous across the board and deliver noteworthy upgrades to these horror classics that are clean, sharp and filmic. There may be minor differences between the films but all of them hold up rather splendidly with sharp and enhanced detail paired with clean, rich colors and a rewarding grain structure that retains the filmic look; all with HDR-10 on top of it which enhances many various tidbits and colors along the way. Little to no troubles, blemishes or other issues are to be found throughout the films. Overall, these are great new Ultra High Definition presentations that bring the first seven films home looking better than ever and they should easily excite fans.
AUDIO:
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features both a Remastered Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack for all seven films and the alternate cuts where applicable, and a 2.0 DTS-HD MA Theatrical Soundtrack on the first six films (and each version of those including multiple cuts) while ‘New Nightmare’ includes a 5.1 DTS-HD MA Theatrical soundtrack. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentations for the Atmos soundtracks. These new multichannel soundtracks offer some extra immersion and aggressiveness to the viewing experience and each offer crisp, clean and often hard hitting audio presentations throughout. The use of added surround elements varies but each film takes advantage of all seven available channels on at least a handful of occasions, while never causing any clashes or issues with any dialogue or other audio elements. Overall, these are solid and enjoyable Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtracks that hold up nicely and should please fans who would like a little more immersion in their viewing.
