Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. ‘The Accountant 2’ rejoins Christian Wolff, the brilliant accountant with a knack for uncovering number discrepancies and the dangerous ability to serve as a one man army. When an associate of Christian’s is murdered and found with a note to find the accountant, he can’t help but be intrigued and soon becomes intent to uncover the secrets behind the mysterious meeting and death. But when a bit of help is needed, Chris calls in his brother Braxton who reluctantly arrives in LA to assist with the mystery. As pieces of the puzzle begin to fit together and some of the more dangerous players are unveiled, the duo will have to prepare for the real fight ahead.
Directed once again by Gavin O’Connor (The Way Back, The Accountant) from a screenplay written by Bill Dubuque (The Judge), O’Connor does a capable job at the helm of ‘The Accountant 2’ guiding along the follow-up with a bit more fun and heart albeit lacking in the story department. The sequel’s cast includes a collection of new and returning individuals including Ben Affleck (Air), Jon Bernthal (TV’s We Own This City), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (TV’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World Dominion), Allison Robertson (Despise Not, My Youth) and J.K. Simmons (Red One), with the majority offering generally capable performances for the most part in each of their roles.

‘The Accountant 2’ returns us to the world of the brilliant Christian Wolff and offers a sequel that benefits from more humor and heart, yet tends to be incredibly predictable throughout the majority of its duration which often detracts from any intended emotion or tension once things start to heat up or certain situations become increasingly dire. Much like its predecessor it’s not a terrible movie, nor is it a great one. Interestingly, this sequel isn’t quite as decent as the first film as a whole when it comes to story, twists and the progression of events, yet at the same time it repeatedly ends up being significantly more fun.
A key factor in ‘The Accountant 2’ that helps increase the fun is the notable chemistry between Affleck and Bernthal who manage to make the brotherly bickering and picking on each other one of the most entertaining aspects of the sequel and perhaps the one element that surpasses it is the expertly crafted action sequences which look terrific, even if there aren’t a great deal of them in the film. Those who were big fans of the first film will likely appreciate this one even more as while I didn’t dislike the original by any means I also wasn’t a big fan and based on pure enjoyment I can safely say that I definitely enjoyed this sequel more than the first film.

Overall, ‘The Accountant 2’ is a decent sequel in many respects that enhances the fun and humor this time around in large part due to the perfect pairing of stars Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal who bounce off of each other with ease and rarely make it difficult to believe they are brothers, while the few key action sequences are stellar in their own right and easily stand out as some of the film’s strongest sequences. The story itself is a bit sloppy and I could easily predict almost every big moment or intended surprise before it occurred unlike the first film which had at least a few nice surprises that weren’t nearly as easy to see coming. If you enjoyed the first film and are at all excited about this sequel then ‘The Accountant 2’ is certainly worth giving a chance as it has plenty going for it, just don’t expect an overly thrilling ride packed with an abundance of surprises or anything exceptional.

VIDEO:
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘The Accountant 2’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, presented in its original 2.39:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks fantastic as a whole and provides a clean, sharp and nicely detailed presentation from start to finish that’s absent of any issues or glitches to be found throughout. Detail is marvelous on character faces and clothing, along with locations, action sequences and more which always look sharp and stellar. The Dolby Vision HDR improves upon many colors along the way including bits of clothing, scenery, blood and more, while black levels are deep, clean and problem free. Overall, this is a wonderful Ultra High Definition presentation that looks great at every turn and should easily excite fans and first time viewers.
AUDIO:
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentation. This multichannel soundtrack is a blast itself and it offers a crisp, clean and at times notably aggressive audio presentation throughout. It takes advantage of all seven available channels in order to send music, gunfire and debris, plus quite a bit more repeatedly zipping throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate, while never negatively impacting any dialogue or other simultaneously occurring audio elements in the process. Overall, this is a great Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that never disappoints and does a great job of fully immersing you in the ride on multiple occasions.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
