[Blu-Ray Review] Looney Tunes: Platinum Collection Volume 1 (2025 Reissue); Now Available From Warner Bros 3

‘Looney Tunes: Platinum Collection Volume 1’ serves up a splendid collection of classic animated shorts from over the decades with nearly all of your favorite key Looney Tunes stars featured within. It should be noted that the Blu-ray release is identical to the previous version released years prior so if you already own that set you can rest assured that the disc content won’t see any changes or alterations between this reissue and the original. If you don’t already own the initial printing of the release though, then this is a perfect opportunity to add this spectacular set to your collection at last without paying those insane secondary prices for an out of print release. For those who may not be quite sold on the fifty cartoons alone, the 3-disc set also offers hours of great extras and bonus cartoons that should have no trouble keeping you entertained for some time.

[Blu-Ray Review] Looney Tunes: Platinum Collection Volume 1 (2025 Reissue); Now Available From Warner Bros 4

Returning home and back in print after some time, the 3-disc ‘Looney Tunes: Platinum Collection Volume 1’ Blu-ray release is now available again at last courtesy of Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, with the second Volume simultaneously reissued along with it. The debut installment in the Blu-ray series offers up 50 iconic animated shorts sporting very nice high definition video presentations on each that may not be quite as spectacular as some recent offerings from the Warner Archive Collection, but still look pretty great nonetheless.

The one somewhat disappointing aspect is the inclusion of solely lossy mono Dolby Digital soundtracks although they certainly do a serviceable job at the very least and this is undoubtedly a result of these initially being released years prior when Warner Bros. had a regular habit of doing just that in the audio department with their animation releases. Those who are new to the sets though can rest assured that they still look and sound very good as a whole, and the hours of notable extras included (including an entire disc dedicated solely to supplements) as well as nine bonus cartoons make this release quite a treat even amid the few minor negatives. If you don’t already own a copy of this one and are a Looney Tunes fan, then it’s recommended and definitely well worth adding to your collection.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Looney Tunes: Platinum Collection Volume 1’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation on all 50 animated shorts with Aspect Ratios of approximately 1.33:1-1.37:1. The video presentations look very good as a whole and offer generally sharp, clean and filmic presentations on all 50 of the featured shorts. There are a number of notable scuffs, scratches and marks present on many of the cartoons, yet they rarely ever detract from the experience and often times help to complement it and showcase their original appearance (or closer than expected with the remaster at least). Detail is impressive throughout and everything from character specifics to backgrounds and settings look sharp and solid, rich with vibrant coloring (aside from the included black and white shorts naturally). Overall, these are very solid high definition video presentations that hold up well throughout and should definitely please diehard fans that don’t already own the initial release of this set.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release includes a lossy 192 kbps 1.0 channel Dolby Digital mono soundtrack on each of the included cartoons. These lossy mono soundtracks obviously won’t pack the rich clarity or punch of a lossless presentation, yet they still hold up remarkably well and are fully capable. They do a nice job of juggling the various audio elements within and all dialogue, music, effects and the rest sound clean and fully audible at nearly every turn, while never causing one object or effect to overtake any others in a troubling manner. Overall, these are capable and quite decent 1.0 Dolby Digital soundtracks that will likely disappoint some due to the format itself, but they at least still do the trick.
