Synopsis:

Quentin Tarantino scores with an explosive mix of intense action and edgy humor in his “twisty crime yarn” (Entertainment Weekly), now presented for the first time in 4K. What do a sexy stewardess (Pam Grier), a street-tough gun runner (Samuel L. Jackson), a lonely bail bondsman (Robert Forster), a shifty ex-con (Robert De Niro), an earnest federal agent (Michael Keaton), and a stoned-out beach bunny (Bridget Fonda) have in common? They’re six players on the trail of a half million dollars in cash! The only questions are… who’s going to get played… and who’s going to make the big score?

[4K Ultra HD Review] Jackie Brown; Available January 21, 2025 From Lionsgate 2

‘Jackie Brown’ joins a struggling flight attendant named Jackie who is forced to take drastic measures after she is stopped for illegally smuggling money for her gun-running boss Ordell. Unwilling to fully turn on him or do the time herself for the situation, Jackie instead joins forces with a tired bail bondsman to set up the score of a lifetime by playing the authorities after her, her boss and others in order to land a half million dollar payday that could set her up for  some time. But if Jackie is going to make the whole ordeal work, it will take perfect timing and some clever moves in order to keep the money in her possession and get away with it.

‘Jackie Brown’ was written and directed for the screen by Quentin Tarantino, based on the novel “Rum Punch” by Elmore Leonard and Tarantino does a magnificent job at the helm guiding along the clever, twisty and just plain enjoyable ride with heart and style. The film’s star studded cast includes Pam Grier, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, Michael Keaton and Robert De Niro, along with more and nearly all offer solid and fitting performances in each of their respective roles that help to make this gem work as marvelously as it does at every turn.

[4K Ultra HD Review] Jackie Brown; Available January 21, 2025 From Lionsgate 3

‘Jackie Brown’ was first unleashed upon moviegoers Christmas of 1997 and marked the third film by Quentin Tarantino, as well as his only film based upon previously existing source material. It’s a much tamer and more easygoing film than some of the filmmaker’s other offerings thanks to the wisely easygoing pace for much of it that allows viewers to become invested and familiar with the colorful collection of characters within before they start to more aggressively turn on each other. You never know for certain who is playing who and what might or might not be what it appears to.

It’s a phenomenal film that’s packed with the smart, witty dialogue that Tarantino is known for, with a truly magnificent cast to back it up led by Pam Grier, Sam Jackson, Robert Forster and countless other familiar (and talented) faces. For some odd reason ‘Jackie Brown’ seems to be one of the iconic filmmaker’s less noteworthy films although it really shouldn’t be as it serves up everything we love about Tarantino’s work while also giving him a chance to do something slightly different than his previous two outings. If you enjoy Tarantino’s work but have never had the pleasure of ‘Jackie Brown’ then you should probably stop reading and go rectify that, because you might just be amazed at how unforgettable and wildly fun it truly manages to be.

VIDEO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Jackie Brown’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, presented in its original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks great as a whole and provides a sharp, clean and filmic presentation that stays true to the film’s source material with a nice a grain structure and enhanced detail and clarity. Detail is marvelous on character specifics, along with the various locations from the mall to the bail bonds storefront and the beach condo, while the Dolby Vision HDR contributes some more vibrant and specific coloring on pieces of clothing and furniture, vehicles and more, even smaller elements like the coffee mug on Max Cherry’s desk; all boosted even further by deep, rich black levels that don’t disappoint. Overall, this is a tremendous Ultra High Definition presentation that offers a notable upgrade that fans should appreciate.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. This multichannel soundtrack appears to be largely identical to that included on Lionsgate’s previous Blu-ray editions although that’s not a negative by any means and it still serves up a clean, crisp and quite immersive audio presentation throughout. It consistently takes advantage of all five available channels in order to send music, action and vehicle effects, plus plenty more moving throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate, and never negatively impacting any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously with one another. Overall, this is a solid 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack that holds up well and should satisfy fans, especially paired with the quite striking new 4K video presentation.
