The various volumes span the golden age of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies and showcase beloved animated shorts from some of your favorite characters including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, Tweety & Sylvester, along with some lesser known gems.

The Blu-ray set features everything from notable fan favorites to some truly rare titles that range from the ‘50s, ‘60s and more, including some that were released as early as the 1930’s and feature a drastically different type of cartoon than that which today’s audiences are typically accustomed to. Many of the cartoons within haven’t seen a great deal of air or inclusion in recent memory and are undeniably a product of their time, with at least a good handful offering content that will be seen as far more racist, sexist and offensive in today’s world (they even include a note stating that the Collector’s Choice volumes are intended for the Adult Collector and may not be suitable for Children). While some may offend, it’s still an absolute treat to see this unique and memorable collection of cartoons from a very different era brought home and remastered, and in HD no less.

This four volume set should have zero trouble keeping fans entertained for hours upon hours. If you’re a dedicated Looney Tunes fan that would love to revisit some of the more obscure gems from the long-spanning catalog, then you definitely won’t want to miss out on this marvelous collection, especially considering the surprisingly low price tag on this four volume collection which is just a smidge higher than the individual volume releases. The set also delivers quite impressive video and audio presentations on these iconic cartoons that should have the longtime fans pretty thrilled altogether. If you’re already contemplating a purchase (and especially if you don’t yet own any of the individual volumes) then Warner Archive’s 4-disc ‘Looney Tunes: Collector’s Choice Volumes 1-4’ Blu-ray release will not disappoint and is definitely recommended.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Looney Tunes: Collector’s Choice Volumes 1-4’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation on all 97 animated shorts newly remastered and  presented in their original 1.33:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentations look pretty spectacular for the most part, especially when taking into account the age and probable condition of the source material for some of the older and significantly rarer inclusions within. While it should come as no surprise that some of these cartoons look notably better than others, they almost all look pretty solid, not to mention better than the majority have ever looked prior. They offer rich colors, nice detail throughout and many also feature a very filmic look, retaining their share of grain and other welcome elements that represent the source material and aside from a bit of video noise on select older shorts and some marks and other minor imperfections (all of which should be somewhat expected), they look tremendous. Overall, these are mostly great high definition presentations that shine and look delightful as a whole.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release includes a 2.0 dual mono DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 97 included shorts. These dual mono DTS-HD MA soundtracks deliver quite capable audio presentations in their own right that also sound better than you’d expect from some of the rarer, older cartoons included within. They do a capable job of balancing the various audio elements and everything including dialogue, music and effects sound clean, crisp and quite marvelous. There are a few exceptions in which a minor amount of hissing or muffling can be noticeable, but never in a detrimental way and in most situations you have to crank it up a fair amount to really have it stand out; while every bit of key dialogue, music and the rest remains clean and fully audible. Overall, these are very nice 2.0 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that hold up even better than some might expect and they shouldn’t have any trouble pleasing fans.

The Blu-ray release of ‘Looney Tunes: Collector’s Choice Volumes 1-4’ does not include any bonus content aside from two additional ‘bonus cartoons’ featured on Volume 4.
