The ‘South Park’ special event ‘Joining the Panderverse’ joins the citizens of your favorite mountain town as their lives are threatened by the continued use of AI and all of its possibilities, soon causing handymen to be the most desired folks in town as a result of their jobs being one of the very few that can’t be replicated by artificial intelligence. Meanwhile Cartman keeps dreaming of an alternate reality where he and all of his friends, teachers and the other townspeople are being replaced, causing Cartman to start to wonder whether this world truly exists and if it might be a threat to his existence.

‘South Park: Joining the Panderverse’ is another hilarious and creative outing with the folks of South Park that pokes some fun at everything from Disney to AI this time around and finds plenty of fun and notably amusing ways to approach the material; all in that iconic style that this series still manages to do so well after all of these years. Tackling the leadership at Disney and the supposed reasons why their films in big franchises have underperformed in recent memory, in addition to seeing the threat artificial intelligence poses for the hard working citizens of the town that naturally leads to the handymen becoming the new wealthiest individuals around after they become the one group of workers that isn’t affected by the influx of new technology. As is always the case for ‘South Park’ the show pulls zero punches when approaching all of these subjects which once again lead to revolt, chaos and plenty of trouble around town, which all of course equals a healthy collection of fun and laugh out loud moments for us viewers.

Dedicated ‘South Park’ fans will surely be thrilled to see that these Paramount+ Special Events continue to receive the physical media treatment, although many may be slightly less pleased by the fact that this one is being released in a standalone edition with only the one 50 minute special included as opposed to two like the last couple; although this may very well be due to the fact that last year’s special was the first not to be the initial part of a two part event, therefore it would probably be best to assume that this may be the case going forward. Fortunately, the quality is outstanding for the Blu-ray edition and curiously looks better than nearly every previous ‘South Park’ release on Blu-ray; not only sporting a significantly higher bitrate but also with many of the previous troubles such as occasional banding being largely eradicated which is great to see. For diehard fans who collect every physical release for the series, it will all come to down whether it’s worth it to you personally to pay for the one special or not. Waiting for a solid sale to pick it up is another option worth considering for those that might be hesitant.

Overall, ‘South Park: Joining the Panderverse’ delivers another goofy, offensive and hilarious adventure that finds the local townspeople desperate to find work and repairs when AI takes over causing nearly every profession other than handymen to be rendered obsolete, while Cartman begins having horrifying nightmares leading him to believe that everything he knows is in danger. It’s a clever, offensive and ridiculous good time that ‘South Park’ fans should have quite a bit of fun with and that once again has ties to our modern reality done in an extreme manner like only this series can. The Blu-ray release features solely the one special this time around and is absent of any extras, but the quality of the video presentation seems to have received an upgrade and it provides one of the cleaner and more impressive presentations we’ve seen for the series on physical media which should have any fans who’d like to own this one extremely pleased.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘South Park: Joining the Panderverse’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on the Special Event. The video presentation looks spectacular as a whole and delivers a clean, sharp and beautifully detailed presentation from start to finish. It also seems to be a cleaner presentation for the series than we’re typically accustomed to, and while the series has certainly never looked poor or problematic on Blu-ray, many of the more minor issues such as noticeable banding and artifacts are largely absent here, while the special event also sees a higher bitrate than is typically the case and the result is a gorgeous, brightly colored presentation that should have fans thrilled. Overall, this is a wonderful high presentation that delivers admirably throughout and shouldn’t elicit any complaints.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on the included special. This multichannel soundtrack offers a clean, crisp and well balanced soundtrack that is similar to the soundtracks we typically see included on the ‘South Park’ Blu-ray releases. All dialogue, music and other audio elements occurring throughout remain clean and fully audible at all times, while all five available channels are utilized throughout in order to send some music and other audio effects and tidbits throughout the various speakers on occasion. Overall, this is a solid 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack that isn’t groundbreaking but does its job well and should satisfy fans.
