THE MOVIE – REVIEW:
‘Dune: Part Two’ continues the story of Paul Atreides as the remainder of his bloodline aside from his mother and himself are eradicated while the final two forge a new alliance with the Fremen intent on finding a path towards vengeance in the name of their family. As the Emperor and those who currently reign attempt to thwart any potential rumors of his survival, Paul begins to take drastic steps that might complicate his current life and relationship with the woman he loves but also have the potential to give him the advantage needed to stand a chance at victory against his enemies in power amid these increasingly desperate and uncertain times.
Directed once again by notable filmmaker Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Sicario) from a screenplay written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) and Villeneuve; based upon the novel by Frank Herbert, Villeneuve does a magnificent job back at the helm of ‘Dune: Part Two’ guiding along the epic second part of the tale with beauty, heart and style. The film’s star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet (Wonka), Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Rebecca Ferguson (Doctor Sleep), Josh Brolin (Deadpool 2), Austin Butler (Elvis), Florence Pugh (Oppenheimer), Dave Bautista (Glass Onion), Christopher Walken (TV’s Severance), Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die), Stellan Skarsgård (TV’s Andor), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), and Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos) who each provide noteworthy and fully capable performances for the most part in their respective roles.

‘Dune: Part Two’ is a thrilling, powerful and visually spectacular follow-up that continues the story introduced in the first film and manages to deliver an even more impressive second installment. It’s rich with beauty, heart and a great deal of stunning action sequences that will leave many viewers with a grin plastered on their face throughout much of its runtime which clocks in at just over 165 minutes but somehow seems significantly shorter due to its ability to offer nary a dull moment throughout. It’s a truly mesmerizing film that’s destined to become one of the great sci-fi epics due to director Denis Villeneuve’s clear passion for the source material and his remarkable ability to create worlds in film that look and work better than most. With his passion and attention to detail and a powerhouse cast on top of it, this quickly becomes one of the best films of the year and also one of the best sci-fi epics in recent memory.
Fans of the iconic novel by Frank Herbert that the films are based upon should be absolutely blown away by this take on the material and even those of you such as me who aren’t overly familiar with the book (although it’s likely going on my shortlist at this point I’ll admit) are still almost guaranteed to have an unforgettable time with this expertly crafted film which will keep you glued to the screen throughout and only anxiously anticipating what’s to come. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of ‘Dune: Part Two’ or either film, then I would strongly urge you to rectify that at your earliest convenient, because this is one sci-fi masterpiece that you definitely won’t want to overlook or miss out on.

OVERALL:
‘Dune: Part Two’ is absolutely breathtaking; an exciting, visually remarkable accomplishment that’s as engaging and powerful in story as it is in scope and visual splendor. Director Denis Villeneuve once again only manages to exceed expectations and his expert guidance helps it to become something quite special that’s only improved even further by a magnificent cast once again led by Timothée Chalamet. ‘Dune: Part Two’ easily earns one of my highest recommendations. It’s a truly spectacular and moving ride that follows its outstanding predecessor and manages to outdo it at nearly every turn. If you enjoyed the first film or are a fan of the iconic novel that both films are based upon, then you won’t even want to consider missing out on this marvelous next chapter. If you still haven’t had the pleasure of the first film, then I would wholeheartedly encourage you to go out of your way to give both a shot whenever possible.

VIDEO:
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Dune: Part Two’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, presented in a 2.39:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks wonderful and provides a gorgeously detailed and vibrantly colored presentation throughout that holds up tremendously without any unexpected faults or concerns arising along the way. Detail is outstanding across the board and character faces, clothing, along with the expansive sand landscapes and gloomy cave interiors all look sharp and spectacular, along with nearly everything else appearing onscreen at one point or another. The Dolby Vision HDR does a great job of complementing the already solid presentation by contributing some richer, more lifelike and full-bodied colors, balanced marvelously by deep and seemingly endless black levels that perfectly boost shadows and dark scenes. Overall, this is a great Ultra High Definition video presentation that should have fans and newcomers extremely satisfied.
AUDIO:
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentation. This multichannel soundtrack is nothing short of phenomenal and delivers a clean, sharp and wildly immersive and hard-hitting audio presentation that’s an absolute treat in itself from start to finish. It constantly utilizes all seven available channels in order to send music, action and weather effects, along with crowd chatter and cheering, thumping in the sand and thopters, plus other aircraft zipping throughout the various speakers at every reasonable opportunity, while never causing any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously with one another to become distorted or rendered problematic in the process. Overall, this is a flawless Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that astounds at every turn and will fully immerse you in the excitement while consistently shaking the room.
SPECIAL FEATURES:

The included Featurettes provided on the actual disc include ‘Chakobsa Training’ (running approximately 5 minutes in length), ‘Creating the Fremen World’ (running approximately 12 minutes), ‘Finding the Worlds of Dune’ (approximately 6 minutes), ‘Buzz Around the New Thopter’ (4 minutes), ‘Worm-riding’ (9 minutes), ‘Becoming Feyd’ (7 minutes), ‘A New Set of Threads’ (8 minutes) and ‘Deeper Into the Desert: The Sounds of Dune’ (13 minutes).
