Synopsis:

Noted producer/director Stephen Hopkins (The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, 24, Predator 2) navigates this harrowing journey of four suburban men into the nightmarish neighborhood of Chicago’s crime-infested underworld. When four young men (Emilio Estevez; Cuba Gooding, Jr.; Stephen Dorff; Jeremy Piven) take a wrong turn on their way to a boxing match in a state-of-the-art RV, they witness a murder. Now, the killers’ leader (Denis Leary) cannot let them live, and the four must find their way to safety while being hunted through Chicago’s meanest streets. With a powerhouse cast, this edge-of-your-seat thriller takes viewers on a life-and-death road trip into terror.

‘Judgment Night’ accompanies four friends on what was intended to be a night of fun and drinking at the big fight, but when the traffic pileup makes them late for the event they make the tragic mistake of taking a side route that indirectly leads them to witness a brutal murder. Now witnesses to the crime, they must head out into the unknown and run for their life while navigating a dangerous neighborhood they are entirely unfamiliar with, where a single wrong turn or move could mean the end of them all with the killer and his cronies always in close pursuit.

‘Judgement Night’ has remained one of my personal favorites since its original release two and a half decades ago, therefore to say I was thrilled to see Warner Archive Collection finally providing this film the Blu-ray debut I’ve long been hoping for is probably an understatement. Directed by Stephen Hopkins and featuring a stellar cast that includes Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Denis Leary, Stephen Dorff, Jeremy Piven and more, ‘Judgment Night’ was initially unleashed upon audiences in 1993 and twenty-five years later this action thriller still manages to hold up with the best of them. Warner Archive Collection brings the classic 90’s film home on Blu-ray for the first time ever in the states, and while the release doesn’t feature any extras or supplements of any kind, it still delivers splendidly in the feature film department, offering a brand new high definition master of the film that looks pretty spectacular for the most part and a great multichannel DTS-HD MA soundtrack that doesn’t disappoint either. I would strongly encourage fellow fans of this great thriller to consider purchasing a copy of Warner Archive’s Blu-ray release. Especially those such as myself that have only found themselves enjoying this clever and incredibly entertaining film more and more over the years.

Overall, Warner Archive Collection’s Blu-ray release of ‘Judgment Night’ brings home the classic thriller from director Stephen Hopkins on Blu-ray for the first time (at least here in the states) sporting a brand new 2019 high definition master that doesn’t disappoint, along with a multichannel DTS-HD soundtrack that does the film’s unforgettable soundtrack justice. Warner Archive’s Blu-ray release of ‘Judgment Night’ is definitely highly recommended for fellow hardcore fans of the film. Even while lacking any bonus content, the release will surely still prove a must own for many due to the more than satisfactory presentation of the film itself, which after this many years of awaiting the film’s Blu-ray debut is more than enough reason in itself for fellow fans to justify a purchase.

VIDEO:

Warner Archive Collection’s Blu-ray release of ‘Judgment Night’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation from a new 2019 HD Master of the film and utilizing its original 2.40:1 Cinemascope Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks rather fantastic as a whole and provides a sharp, detailed and richly colored presentation from start to finish that holds up impressively well even during the numerous notably dark and fast moving sequences within; suffering no noticeable faults or problems along the way. Overall, this is a great high definition video presentation of the 90’s classic that’s complimented by a more than sufficient bitrate and should have no trouble at all satisfying fellow fans of the film.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. This multichannel soundtrack delivers a crisp, clean and fairly active audio presentation throughout. It regularly takes advantage of all five available channels in order to send the memorable soundtrack, along with nature activity, gunshots and more throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate and never resulting in any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously becoming distorted or rendered inaudible in the process. Overall, this is a solid 5.1 channel DTS-HD MA soundtrack that delivers across the board and shouldn’t disappoint in the slightest.
