Fans (and parents to smaller fans) of the series will definitely want to make sure to pick up a copy of ‘Adventure Time: The Complete Fourth Season’ on Blu-Ray to add to their collections. The Blu-Ray release delivers the best video quality possible for the series and it’s never looked better than it does here, in addition to a number of fun bonus goodies (more detailed information regarding the bonus content can be found in the special features section of the technical specification coverage below) that altogether make this a must own release. It’s also a great choice for parents looking to keep those younger ones busy as you can pop in the blu, hit the play all button and you are instantly provided with just about five hours of nonstop entertainment for the little ones, which is always nice.
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Adventure Time: The Complete Fourth Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the fourth seasons episodes. The video presentation looks pretty fantastic overall. The bright, dominant colors of the show have never looked as smooth, detailed and beautiful as they do here on a Blu-Ray. While some mild pixilation may be present at brief moments, it’s not overly distracting and as a whole, these high definition video presentations still look truly terrific and are sure to leave fans of the series extremely satisfied.
Once again, unfortunately keeping to the pattern of the previous Blu-Ray season releases of the series we aren’t provided with any lossless audio soundtracks, nor even surround sound. The Blu-Ray release for the fourth season once again features lossy 2.0 channel Dolby Digital Stereo soundtracks on all 26 Season Four episodes. As far as lossy stereo soundtracks go though, these sound pretty solid. They are discrete, smooth and filled with plenty of fun effects, which works quite well for those such as me who like to use the simulated surround feature on their receiver; the episodes sounded pretty wonderful utilizing the Dolby Pro-Logic II X simulated 7.1 feature. While it’s of course disappointing to still not see lossless audio present on these releases four seasons in, it’s still great to at least see the series arriving on Blu-Ray and fans can rest assured that the lossy stereo soundtracks are about as good as they get and still sound pretty great as a whole.
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Adventure Time: The Complete Fourth Season’ does include some enjoyable and worthwhile bonus content. The release includes a 20 minute featurette titled ‘Distant Bands: The Music of Adventure Time’ which explores the unique music of the series. The Blu-Ray release also includes Audio Commentaries on all 26 episodes of the season.
