Great news for fellow fans of the recent ‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ as Warner Archive brings home the complete series on Blu-Ray, also marking the first release on Blu-Ray of the series in any fashion. The Blu-Ray set includes all 26 episodes from the series split between two discs containing 13 episodes on each which works wonderfully, especially with the way the season is sort of divided into two mini seasons of 13 episodes each to some degree, following two different main storylines for the first and second half of the season. The series looks fantastic on Blu-Ray; fellow fans of the series should be quite pleased and will definitely want to pick up a copy of this great release to add to their collection.

I know some have expressed their dislike of the animation style, though while I will admit it took a short period of time to adjust to, I think it looks pretty great and really gives an appropriate look and appearance to these characters and their adventures that expand far beyond the realm of Earth as they try to protect the galaxy from the Red Lanterns, Manhunters and other evils trying to do harm to the innocent.

The voice actors are well selected and deliver pretty wonderful and fitting performances overall. Josh Keaton (who some may know from his work as the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man on ‘The Spectacular Spider-Man’ as well as Jack Darby on ‘Transformers Prime’) does a great job in the role of Hal Jordan and Kevin Michael Richardson (who previously worked with Keaton on ‘Transformers Prime’, portraying the voice of Bulkhead in addition to far too many other notable voice roles to note here) is spot on in the role of Kilowog. Some other great actors many will recognize also make appearances portraying voices in roles both small and somewhat regular, such as Tom Kenny and the always amazing Ron Perlman.

VIDEO:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation on all 26 episodes utilizing the original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio in which the series was originally broadcast. The video presentation on this one looks remarkably fantastic, especially with the common flaws so often present with CGI animation. While there may be some minor banding and lines present briefly at times, they are barely noticeable for the most part. Compared to a large majority of CGI animation and as a whole, this video presentation looks stunning and should leave fellow fans of the series drooling with satisfaction.

AUDIO:

The Blu-Ray release includes a lossless 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 26 episodes in the series. This lossless 2.0 soundtrack sounds fantastic and far better than I would have ever imagined it might. It also automatically renders itself into a surround mode on the receiver when played that throws a lot of activity in the rear speakers, presenting an overall loud, booming and wonderfully discrete soundtrack on each episode that just helps to immerse you into this great series even further. As far as lossless 2.0 soundtracks go, this one unquestionably surpasses expectations and should leave fellow audiophiles quite content.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

There are no special features included on this Blu-Ray release, but I feel that I should note just how fortunate we are to even see this series released on Blu-Ray in its entirety and the incredibly reasonable price more than makes up for the lack of extras included.
