A man, looking to save his best friend from the throes of methamphetamine addiction, ties him up in an abandoned cabin and induces withdrawal.
‘Resolution’ is a truly hard film to judge based on a single viewing. It is a slow burn thriller which really defies classification and it calmly throws constant hurdles at the viewer that you are mostly on your own to solve and place together. While I while not say anything regarding the ending, I will say I have seen a number of varying opinions and have also had friends and colleagues inform me that in order to truly understand and appreciate this film and its ending it will require a few viewings. The pace is slow but fierce, as odd as that may sound, you should understand once you become engulfed in it. I have some mixed feelings about the film at the moment, but simply due to the fact that I have only thus far had the opportunity to watch ‘Resolution’ once I will keep them to myself for now as I believe it really will be a matter of paying closer attention and finding what I may have missed on the initial viewing.
The directors have done a fantastic job here, and the acting is impressive from everyone involved. The two main cast members are absolutely phenomenal, and it’s a wonder why they aren’t both in a lot more. We can hope it is simply a matter of time. This movie was beautifully crafted and looks absolutely stunning for the budget utilized. I must admit that I am thoroughly excited to see what Justin Benson and Aaron Scott Moorhead bring us next. I will certainly be keeping an eye on their careers from this point going forward.
‘Resolution’ is a great film, but a bit hard to piece together. It requires your full attention, and even with your full attention provided, it will likely require another viewing or two to get the full picture here. I would highly recommend at least renting the film and giving it a whirl because if nothing else, this is definitely a truly impressive piece of independent filmmaking here and I can’t tell you how many friends and colleagues I know that absolutely praise this film.
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Resolution’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 2.35:1 Cinemascope Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks great, and for a film with a budget as minimal as ‘Resolution’ this movie looks outstanding and you can truly appreciate just how phenomenal it looks when you view it on Blu-Ray. Fans of this film should be very impressed with this Blu-Ray video transfer.
The Blu-Ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. Due to the quiet nature of a good portion of this film, the lossless multichannel soundtrack doesn’t get too much of a workout in the rear channels, but when certain noises or effects occur throughout; the lossless 5.1 soundtrack is certainly noticeable and contributes to the overall experience of the film in a very positive way.
As far as extras go, ‘Resolution’ is pretty well stockpiled with goodies. Included are a number of extras such as an interview with the filmmakers, outtakes and unseen footage, exclusive intros, cast and crew commentaries, and more. There is also a section titled ‘Weird Extras’ that I would highly recommend everyone check out as they are indeed a lot of fun and should provide a good number of laughs. These ‘weird extras’ included items such as a faux alternate ending, a silly topless scene, a special with the cast & crew titled ‘how resolution can help you have sex’ and a number of other fun goodies. There are certainly a nice heap of extras to help you delve even deeper into this impressive film.
