Plot Summary:

Peggy Sue faints at a high school reunion. When she wakes up, she finds herself in her own past, just before she finished school.

Believe it or not, I had never seen ‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ until the Blu-Ray arrived for review and that’s certainly never a bad way to see a classic movie for the first time. ‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ tells the story of one woman given thepsgm01 chance to do what many wish they could, to go back and do things over in your life, and during her high school reunion she faints and wakes up back in high school, given the opportunity to do things over. It is a very well done, funny and sweet film that I can see why so many people really enjoy and I’m certainly glad I was given the perfect opportunity to finally check it out. If you (like me) have never seen it I would recommend giving it a whirl. It’s a pretty wonderful film that I’m certain most people will enjoy. If you have seen it before and are a fan, you will likely want to pick up the Blu-Ray for yourself.

‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ was originally released back in 1986 and is being released for the first time ever on Blu-Ray this Tuesday, July 30 from RLJ & Image Entertainment. It’s directed psgm03by Francis Ford Coppola and stars Kathleen Turner, Nicolas Cage, Helen Hunt, Jim Carrey and a few other familiar faces. The performances are strong from most everyone, and it’s always interesting seeing all of these actors I have been watching in more recent titles and how drastically different they looked over 25 years ago. The one element I couldn’t seem to understand and that I found mildly annoying was the random change in Nicolas Cage’s voice throughout. It kept rotating from normal to a congested nasally sound. I’m not certain if he was sick during part of the filming process or if there was some purpose to it that I missed, and his performance was still strong but I for some reason found that somewhat distracting. Kathleen Turner gives a brilliant performance in the title role of Peggy Sue which makes me want to go back and watch some of her other films that I have missed over the years. Jim Carrey has a supporting role as a friend of Cage’s and he is, well, Jim Carrey but younger. For most actors that would make no sense whatsoever, but oddly enough I feel most will completely understand that comparison and find it suitable.

‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ is a heartwarming, fun and funny film from a fantastic director, and filled with a wonderful cast. If you are a fan of the film I highly recommend picking up the Blu-Ray when it’s released as it’s very reasonably priced and though lacking in features, a very nice catalog release. If you like me haven’t seen the film, now is the perfect chance to do so.

VIDEO:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘Peggy Sue Got married’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. For a film that’s over 25 years old, this high definition transfer looks quite nice. It’s detailed and looks great overall while not over polished. While I had not seen the film prior to viewing this Blu-Ray, I can imagine this is pretty close to the intended look of the original film and think most fans should be pleased with the video presentation.

AUDIO:

It was quite a pleasant surprise for an older catalog release such as this to include a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, and the Blu-Ray release of ‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ certainly does. While it’s not a film that gets many opportunities to test the uncompressed soundtrack, everything present sounds detailed and great and should leave everyone satisfied.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

There are no special features included on this release, but please bear in mind that it is just a basic catalog title for an older film being released on Blu-Ray and the more than reasonable price should make up for the lack of features. It’s certainly still great to have old classics such as this released on Blu-Ray at all.
